Sketches of Carol is the innovative solo project of London-based vocalist and composer Sylvia Schmidt.

‘Carol’ represents a single figure embodying a diverse, often underrepresented community of women: a symbolic encapsulation of the multi-faceted female experience.

The project is defined by an instinctive improvisatory approach, which Schmidt describes as the ‘most pure, raw form of [her] creative being’. As a virtuoso of extended vocal techniques and improvisation, her strikingly haunting melodies carry the emotional weight of a rich thematic context: environmental preservation, women’s and migrant rights, shared grief, as well as human connection and community.

Sketches of Carol is kindly supported by the Help Musicians Record & Release Fund.
